A person’s life is dictated by a number of written rules, but besides that we also have traditions, habits and unwritten rules. Those are especially important when it comes to births, engagements, weddings or funerals. All of those milestones are accompanied by a myriad of details and there is always someone who knows how things ought to be done. Shame on those, who do not respect tradition!
Contemporary playwright Jean-Luc Lagarce’s „The Rules of Etiquette in Modern Society” is a humorous play inspired by a 19. century etiquette guidebook written by a French baroness, showcasing how our lives are influenced by the most minute of details.
Lagarce’s plays have been staged at Tallinna Linnateater before, including „Us, Heroes”, „Quite at the End of the World” and „I Was at Home Waiting for it to Rain”. The one-woman play is put on to celebrate the 50th jubilee of actress Elisabet Reinsalu.
