Opening Night

Author:
John Cassavetes / Diana Leesalu / Kaarel Väljamäe
Director:
Diana Leesalu

For this production, a fictional theatre called The Mill Theatre is created in the Horse Mill. A famous playwright has written an autobiographical play specifically for the Mill Theatre. For the director, success is a matter of life and death. Everyone puts their best effort into creating something that deeply touches the audience. There is exactly one week left until the premiere… And then, unexpectedly, a young crazed theatre fan enters the rehearsal room. After that, everything changes.

Diana Leesalu and Kaarel Väljamäe were inspired by John Cassavetes’ 1977 film “Opening Night” to create this play. In the film, the protagonist, a respected actress, starts losing the boundaries between real life and fiction during the creative process.
